Types of Agricultural Equipment

Soil Cultivation

There are a number of tools used to help prepare the soil for planting, each with its own strengths and weaknesses:
Cultivators help grind up weeds and plants to make the soil more rich, or can remove weeds from around your crops.
Harrows level the soil, distribute crop residue, and kill weeds.

Cultipackers crush packed dirt to remove air pockets and create a smooth seed bed, then gently embeds seeds into that soil.
Plows come in many shapes and sizes, but are generally used to loosen or turn the soil before planting.

Planting

Another key factor is planting the crops themselves, and some machines are built specially for that task:
Seed drills insert seeds into the soil without disturbing the ground, typically used for row crops, cover crops, and grasses.
Broadcast seeders spread seeds randomly, making them best for cover crops and grasses.
Transplanters are like manual seed drills, letting you plant carefully without having to bend over.

Harvesting

Finally, more agricultural tools are designed to harvest fully-grown crops:
Combine harvesters earn their name by combining reaping, threshing, and winnowing into one machine.
Swathers, or windrowers, cut up the crop and form it into a windrow for faster drying.
