Modifying Your Tractor to Remove Snow
Missouri winters are pretty rough and snowy, with regular blizzards piling up inches of snow all over your property. If you own a farm or ranch, you’ve got to clear that snow quickly to allow you to get to your animals to take care of them. Fortunately, you’ve got a powerful weapon waiting for you in the barn: your tractor! Equipping your tractor for snow removal is a simple process and it will save you time and effort when you need to clear snow from your driveway, sidewalks, and paths.
Winterize Your Tractor
First, you need to take the time to prepare your tractor for operation in very cold temperatures and poor weather conditions. You’ll have to add a fuel stabilizer to your gasoline to prevent it from gumming up and clogging the fuel system. You should also change your oil, air up your tires, examine them, and install tire chains to give you better traction (on gravel or turf). Avoid using chains when driving your tractor over pavement.
Find the Right Attachment
You have three main options when it comes to selecting a snow-removal attachment for your tractor: blades, buckets, and blowers. Blade attachments are simple and simply scrape the snow ahead of the tractor, allowing you to pile it up out of the way. A bucket attachment lets you scoop up big loads of snow to deposit them in a pile. A blower will blow the snow ahead and to the side of you so that you can quickly clear a driveway.
